Solitude in the Pines

Matthew Browne

Updated: Jun 2, 2023

The Quiet Pine Cabin sits at the end of a sleepy street surrounded by national forest. A stream runs through the backyard and mountains can be seen in the distance. From the moment guests step in the front door, they are greeted with pleasing decor alongside the comforts of a cozy cabin. The cabin has been tastefully remodeled and features a stone wood burning fireplace, two spacious bedrooms, a beautiful kitchen and bathroom, and a hot tub equipped deck overlooking the forest.

In a recent virtual interview, the cabin hosts Charisse and Cody shared the road that led them to purchasing a cabin. The inspiration for their vacation rental property came from the desire to create a space that would allow guests to find solitude, while feeling recharged. With Cody having a formal background in architecture and Charisse having a background in operations and interior design, they knew they possessed the skills and knowledge to renovate the cabin of their dreams.

To kick off the discussion, these new cabin hosts shared what originally drew them to the cabin with classic gambrel charm. Their search for a cabin in the Big Bear area began during the summer of 2021. During this time, properties were in high demand and inventory was limited. What the soon to be owners did not know is that the Quiet Pine Cabin would be the very first cabin they stepped into. Charisse stated, “It was hard to deny that good gut feeling. There is something very special about this place.”

Due to the busy construction market, the owners faced several challenges. The most significant of those challenges revolved around finding a contractor who could meet their timeline and stay within the guardrails of their budget. Thankfully they were able to find a small family owned contractor who checked the requisite boxes. Admittedly, they needed to adjust to the small mountain town pace and lifestyle.

Throughout the remodeling process, the hosts maintained the vision of creating a modern mountain design without losing the cabin's original aesthetic and feel. As they designed each space, they made an effort to provide guests with elements that made the cabin more engaging and uplifting. Charisse went on to say, “Functionality was also very important for us. We provided all the amenities to make guests feel right at home.”

When asked what are the greatest rewards in owning an Airbnb property, Charisse and Cody said, “Aside from having a cozy cabin in the mountains for us to personally enjoy, it is incredibly rewarding to hear guest’s positive reviews and feedback. It made all of the time and hard work worth it.”

The Quiet Pine Cabin is in a wonderful location that features a lot of local favorites. The hosts were kind enough to share a few of their personal favs including their go-to for classic homestyle comfort food, Thelma’s. This family restaurant is also known to have the best chicken pot pie around, as well as a can't miss bottomless ribs nights. Charisse and Cody also added The Oaks and La Pergola Trattoria to their list of favorite local restaurants and eateries.

If guests are looking for an activity, the hosts recommended visiting the north shore of Big Bear Lake, known for great kayaking, fishing, and hiking. Beyond the activities offered on the shore of the lake, Charisse mentioned their new favorite hike, Pioneer to Pinnacles. Charisse went on to share, “It’s never crowded and is made up of stunning boulder landscapes with amazing mountain views.”

Aside from owning the Quiet Pine Cabin, Charisse and Cody have aspirations to continue building their vacation rental brand, Revival Destinations. Currently they are putting the finishing touches on a home in the funky beach town of Encinitas, California. Their hope is to have this property go live on Airbnb during the summer months of this year. These ambitious and driven hosts also have future visions to expand to Montana.

I thoroughly enjoyed my discussion with Charisse and Cody. They are amazing cabin hosts and were so knowledgeable and accommodating. Their recommendations and responsiveness made our stay very enjoyable. Mollie and I can’t recommend the Quiet Pine Cabin enough. The next time you are looking for a small town mountain vibe in Southern California, book your stay with Revival Destinations.
