An Off-Grid Cabin in Flagstaff, AZ

I was recently scrolling through the VRBO website when I came across a unique and secluded cabin. A photography project was taking me to Phoenix so I began entertaining the idea of extending my stay. The Glamper Cabin in Flagstaff, AZ seemed like the perfect place to unplug for a couple days, while taking in the mountain scenery and perhaps enjoying a small dose of snow. Now living in Southern California, my childhood dreams of a white Christmas were nothing more than a memory. With the promise of a wood burning stove and views of the San Francisco Peaks, I quickly made the decision to pack up my Jeep and hit the open road.

Leaving San Diego during the mid-morning hours, the sun was shining and the temperature was a near perfect 65 degrees. With Mya riding shotgun, we cued up our favorite playlists and podcasts and pointed our wheels northeast. We spent much of the day driving through the desert with the cruise control set at a comfortable speed. It was our goal to arrive before nightfall, as we knew we would have to make our way through the Coconino National Forest.

As we made our final climb into the mountains, a heavy snow began to fall. We were approximately 40 minutes from our final destination. After traversing through Flagstaff, we made our final push north. Soon the sun set below the horizon, but left a fading glow that accompanied our arrival almost perfectly.

Upon arriving at our temporary dwelling, I let Mya out of the backseat so she could get acquainted with her new surroundings. I followed the instructions provided by the cabin owner and soon made my way through the front door. I was greeted by a freezing cold cabin. Being off-grid, the Glamper Cabin's only heat source is a wood burning stove. I quickly realized that our first order of business would be lighting a fire to create warmth within the small space we would call home for the next couple of days. With the fire lit, I unpacked our belongings and we settled in for our first night at the Glamper Cabin.

The next two days were filled with photography, good books, snowy walks, and of course plenty of rest and relaxation. The highlight of our stay was walking out the front door and immediately being surrounded by breathtaking views. The Glamper Cabin truly captures the essence of being off-grid and allows guests to reconnect with the great outdoors. With a propane cooktop, solar powered lighting, and a simplified water pump, you get a few modern comforts while still connecting with a simpler time.

Sitting at 8,200 feet, this one bedroom vacation rental offers endless recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and skiing. Located close to the Grand Canyon and the Arizona Snowbowl, adventure is never far away. Requiring 4x4 for winter access, this property is perfect for the true adventurer.
